About me

Recognising patterns is an inherently human trait. Through her practice, Josie seeks out and finds solace in the connectivity of all that surrounds us, whether it is physically before your eyes or something much more obscure within ourselves. She believes that there is a direct likeness between Humans, Trees and Water, among other things. Like trees we grow, stretching, shrinking, breaking, growing back, while simultaneously moving like the sea, a constant flux of, dancing, thrashing, stillness, life giving. With such a fascination towards both elements it was fitting that Josie found a passion in wood carving and woodwork. It is an incredible feet to use a material that has taken decades to grow, it has lived a life different to ours and many lives have lived because of it. Working with wood has allowed Josie’s practice to take shape, giving room for possibilities in combining her other prominent interests; such as sustainability, natural lighting and its illusionary effects, skin, frequencies/energy, and the love for those she cherishes in her life.

To walk a land painted by patterns

so alive and so alike.

As if crafted by the very same hand

each groove that plays

about my fingertips

akin with the etching

upon each mighty tree

alike each drift of rippling waves

that beat smooth the stones

strong and pulsing

as my own beating heart

We exist together

in motion

unwielded and ever-changing

familiar patterns of life

sleep upon our skin

as if we are crafted

by the very same hand
